UFE is a relatively new technique that has gained worldwide acceptance as a minimally invasive alternative to surgery for the treatment of symptomatic fibroids.

The advantages are a short stay in hospital, usually an overnight admission, as well as a quicker recovery. Furthermore the whole procedure is performed under local anaesthetic, using specialized catheters which deliver tiny particles to the fibroids within the uterus.

UFE is performed in our X-ray departments at Entabeni or St Augustine Hospitals, and is covered by the majority of medical aids.
